Justice Advisors will provide a broad range of advice and technical assistance on criminal justice issues to senior host country officials. The Justice Advisor positions are designed to build a just, open and professional criminal justice infrastructure in post conflict countries, establish sustainable democratic institutions and create stable environments for good governance by extending the rule of law to all citizens in a fair and equitable manner.


Justice Advisor Skill Sets Needed

Judicial practice, prosecution, narcotics prosecution, criminal defense, court administration, police-prosecutor coordination, compliance law, informal justice systems, access to justice and public information, ethics, alternative dispute resolution, basic and advanced legal education, financial crimes and terrorist crimes.


Responsibilities

Level II Justice Advisors must possess judicial and other advanced expertise and may be called upon to assess existing judicial structures and institutions along with making recommendations to senior government, judicial and criminal justice officials to strengthen their independent judicial system. As a Level II Justice Advisor, you may serve as a first line supervisor on missions, responsible for the activities of numerous Level I Judicial Advisors. Level II Justice Advisors may be assigned to countries with no existing judicial system and may have to work with other international and local officials in developing assessments and recommendation.


Requirements

In addition to the minimum requirements, Level II Justice Advisors must:

  • Be licensed to practice law.
  • Have a minimum 5 years criminal trial experience as a criminal defense attorney, prosecutor, judge or court administrator, or:
    • Have a minimum 3 years criminal trial experience combined with one year experience serving in an international rule of law program.
  • Possess excellent analytical and communication skills.
