Civilian Police Advisors reflect the complete range of law enforcement responsibilities. Work typically involves assessing, monitoring, advising and mentoring the local civil police in order to ensure that law and order are maintained effectively and impartially according to democratic policing principles to ensure that human rights and fundamental freedoms are fully protected.


POLICE ADVISOR SKILL SETS NEEDED

Police training (basic, advanced and specialized), police mentoring, specialized units (swat, riot control), border enforcement, crimes against persons and property, criminal investigations, crime scene investigations, traffic accident investigations, civil disorder, law enforcement intelligence, narcotic and homicide investigations, customs, internal investigations, financial crimes investigations, witness security and protection.


Responsibilities

As a Police Advisor III, you will serve as the senior mission leader responsible for the proper and timely distribution of assigned personnel based on the need and specific requirements of the mission. Level III Police Advisors must complete the handling of special assignments, identifying training needs of contingent personnel and arranging for necessary training. Level III Police Advisors will be responsible for keeping all subordinate personnel informed on all matters pertaining to special assignments and CJPS directives. Level III Police Advisors will serve at the level of training director, and as a senior mentor to host nation command staff or senior advisor to INL or other US Government personnel on matters of special expertise.



Requirements

In addition to the minimum requirements, Level III Police Advisors must:

  • Have 10 years supervisory or management law enforcement experience.
  • Possess visionary skills and ability to form strong partnerships in diverse cultures.
  • Have a Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice or related field.
  • Possess an advanced degree or law enforcement command training through FBI, PERF, SPI etc.
  • Have the ability and desire to work overseas.
