Civilian Police Advisors reflect the complete range of law enforcement responsibilities. Work typically involves assessing, monitoring, advising and mentoring the local civil police in order to ensure that law and order are maintained effectively and impartially according to democratic policing principles to ensure that human rights and fundamental freedoms are fully protected.


POLICE ADVISOR SKILL SETS NEEDED

Police training (basic, advanced and specialized), police mentoring, specialized units (swat, riot control), border enforcement, crimes against persons and property, criminal investigations, crime scene investigations, traffic accident investigations, civil disorder, law enforcement intelligence, narcotic and homicide investigations, customs, internal investigations, financial crimes investigations, witness security and protection.


Responsibilities

As a Police Advisor II, you may serve as a first line supervisor responsible for several Level I Police Advisors or have responsibility for a specific project. Level II Police Advisors will direct and coordinate the activities of Police instructors by providing expertise in specialized law enforcement functions. A Level II Police Advisor will explain the orders and decisions of senior staff to subordinates and keep subordinates informed of changes in regulations and policies and the implications of new or amended laws and police techniques. A Level II Police Advisor will typically be assigned to mentor or train at an advanced or specialized level and requires additional certifications or licenses in their area of expertise. Level II Advisors may provide specialized training, mentoring or other support in critical need areas such as border control/patrol, crimes against persons, property crime investigations, court security, intelligence, crime scene investigation, dignitary protection, civil disorder, organized crime and anti-corruption.



Requirements

In addition to the minimum requirements, Level II Police Advisor must:

  • Have five years supervisory law enforcement experience.
  • Have some internal affairs experience.
  • Have three years specialized experience directly related to their mission assignment.
  • Have appropriate certification and licenses.
  • Have the ability and desire to work overseas.
