Justice Advisors will provide a broad range of advice and technical assistance on criminal justice issues to senior host country officials. The Justice Advisor positions are designed to build a just, open and professional criminal justice infrastructure in post conflict countries, establish sustainable democratic institutions and create stable environments for good governance by extending the rule of law to all citizens in a fair and equitable manner.


Justice Advisor Skill Sets Needed

Judicial practice, prosecution, narcotics prosecution, criminal defense, court administration, police-prosecutor coordination, compliance law, informal justice systems, access to justice and public information, ethics, alternative dispute resolution, basic and advanced legal education, financial crimes and terrorist crimes.


Responsibilities

Level I Justice Advisors may provide advice and assistance to draft new legal codes and procedures, train local officials on new codes and procedures and provide advice and guidance on prosecuting criminal investigations. Level I Justice Advisors may work with other international and local officials or organizations.


Requirements

In addition to the minimum requirements, Level I Justice Advisors must:

  • Be licensed to practice law.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years criminal trial experience as a criminal defense attorney, prosecutor, judge or court administrator.
  • Possess excellent analytical and communication skills.
