Corrections Advisors will provide a broad range of advice and technical assistance on corrections assistance issues. Work typically involves assessing, monitoring, and advising local corrections officers as they perform their duties and ensure that the rules and regulations governing a correctional facility are enforced.


CORRECTIONS ADVISORS SKILL SETS NEEDED

Prison operations, probation and parole operations, corrections administration and human resources, corrections training, security threat groups, correctional facilities management, classification and records, prisoner programs, prisoner transportation, emergency response, strategic planning, corrections logistics, correctional medical services and community corrections.


Responsibilities

As a Corrections Advisor IV and an expert in your field you will serve as a leader (e.g. Contingent Commanders) for smaller missions or deputy leaders (e.g. Deputy Contingent Commanders) for large and/or complex missions. Level IV Correction Advisors function at the senior executive level and set overall mission direction, working closely with INL. Correction Advisors IV liaise regularly with US Government, senior host government, and international senior leaders. On rare occasions, Level IV Correction Advisors may serve in very senior specialist roles.


Requirements

In addition to the minimum requirements, Correction Advisors IV must:

  • Have demonstrated ten years of progressively responsible experience in corrections, of which of which four years must have been in senior management and supervision at the rank of warden, or the equivalent of a facility of at least 500-beds or probation district or regional supervisor.
  • Possess visionary skills and the ability to form strong partnerships in a diverse culture.
  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice/law enforcement, social science, business accounting or engineering or related field; or:
    • An advanced degree or law enforcement command training.
    • Overseas experience in a senior level position on international corrections assistance missions is strongly desired.
  • Possess the ability and desire to work overseas.
