Corrections Advisors will provide a broad range of advice and technical assistance on corrections assistance issues. Work typically involves assessing, monitoring and advising local correction officers as they perform their duties and ensure that the rules and regulations governing a correctional facility are enforced.


CORRECTIONS ADVISORS SKILL SETS NEEDED

Prison operations, probation and parole operations, corrections administration and human resources, corrections training, security threat groups, correctional facilities management, classification and records, prisoner programs, prisoner transportation, emergency response, strategic planning, corrections logistics, correctional medical services and community corrections.


Responsibilities

As a Corrections Advisor II and expert in your field, you will serve as a first line supervisor responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of members of the U.S. contingent. Corrections Advisors II explain general orders, messages and decisions of command staff to subordinates and also keep subordinates informed of all changes in regulations and policies, implications of new or amended laws and new techniques in police/correction work. Corrections Advisors II will also investigate charges of inefficiency or neglect of duty against contingent members; and file report or charges based on the findings. Level II Corrections Advisors, non-supervisors will typically be assigned to mentor or train at an advanced or specialized level and require additional expertise and/or additional certifications/licenses.


Requirements

In addition to the minimum requirements, Corrections Advisor II must:

  • Have at least 2 years experience in a managerial role (at a rank of sergeant or its equivalent or higher) in a prison correctional facility of at least 100 beds, or;
  • Have a minimum 3 years’ experience in a probation or parole program as a section lead or higher of an office.
  • Possess the ability and desire to work overseas.
